Last year, I didn’t really set any strong goals. The only real one was my Meatless Mondays. I’m proud to say that I managed to make it through the year with really only 3 slip ups, 2 of them intentional. First was I attended a lu’au on a Monday and no way was I paying that much money to not eat. Second, I was really sick and didn’t have any groceries. My somewhat saving grace was that I ate leftovers, so I didn’t actually cook anything. And third? I was at work, having a bad day and my co-worker bought me a bun and it had meat in it, completely forgetting that it was a Monday. Otherwise, I would say this experiment was a success. I’ve even started converting my parents.
I have some long term goals that I managed to cross off my list from my 25 things. Also, I had set some other goals in this post, but didn’t have any solid deadlines to have them completed. I did make some headway into the list though:
- Learn the basics of Photoshop and Illustrator - Through work, I’ve been using Photoshop more and more to the point that I’m pretty comfortable working with it and can get things done quickly.
- Try out some sort of new online social media – I haven’t really tried anything new, but have been focusing my efforts on Twitter to share my content (3,745 tweets at the time of posting) while RTing and engaging with others. I’m slowly building my following (broke 300 a couple weeks ago)
- Start a blog or write for other blogs & get involved in the online community – I’m happy to report that I’ve done both. I have my own site at http://www.adelinawong.ca and I’ve been ghostwriting blog posts for http://www.womanzworld.com which is so cool. I especially love it when I see people sharing things that I have written.
- Learn the basics of XHTML and CSS – I haven’t had much of an opportunity to work on this. I’ve fiddled a little with it when I was building my site, but nothing concrete in the learning department.
- Develop an online and print portfolio – I have a print portfolio of sorts. Bits and pieces of it are in different areas, but are within easy reach for compiling purposes. I have a portfolio section on my site, but have not enabled it yet. Eventually I want to see everything I have in my print portfolio in there.
- Take an extra class about design – I wasn’t able to fit a class into my schedule. Instead I took an online class in public relations
- Subscribe to top design blogs and follow them on twitter and frequently read and interact with them – done! But this can be an ongoing effort
- Redesign something just for fun – I’ve redesigned stuff, but not necessary for fun…
- Learn the basics of advertising and marketing – I’ve been learning a lot about social media marketing through Womanzworld and reading a lot of blogs and books. I still think there is a lot more for me to learn in this area though.
So it appears, I had a pretty good year. Made a lot of headway in some areas, and in others not so much. There is still a lot more I could be doing though. Here’s to a great 2011!
