Transit Musings

Taking the bus on a regular basis has resulted in me observing people a lot.  There were two particular incidents today that were particular cool and inspiring, and one not so much.

The one not so much, involved a lady, probably in her 30s dressing like she was 15.  It was kind of disgusting.  Her shirt was probably 3 sizes too small and her skirt barely covered her bottom.  The way she stood was interesting – probably started when she was young and never changed it.  Most people slouching, shoulders forward.  Not her, she was slouching with her shoulders backwards, resulting in her pushing her chest out an extra inch.  Not flattering and SO bad for your posture.  The worst was probably the smell.  Its summer time people!  Basic hygiene please!  Deodorant and showering are a must!  Ugh

Now on the more inspiring incidents.  They are sort of related.  I was at the Skytrain station, waiting for my bus to take me home.  I noticed to the side an old couple sitting down on a concrete wall and the gentleman had his arm around her waist.  I thought that was cute, but didn’t look twice.  It was when the bus came that things became interesting.  He walked her to the bus and helped her get on, but didn’t join her.  She then proceeded to walk all the way to the back of the bus and sat on the last bench (where mostly teens like to sit and put up their feet).  He waited outside, standing near where she was.  I sort of looked like they were talking with their hands.  When the bus started to pull away from the curb, he blew her a kiss.  As we passed him again, he gave a final wave that she returned.  That exchange was so adorable.  I feel like they were on a date and she was headed home after a long day of adventures.  At least that is what I would like to believe.

Moments later, another elderly gentleman got on the bus.  He had ear buds in and you could clearly tell he was enjoying his music.  Where are all these cool seniors coming from?  Maybe they only come out at night?  When I get older, I want to be like them.  Aging with style.  Guess the saying is right: “growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional.”

Yea, there are definitely lots of interesting people to watch. Sometimes I wonder what their story is or whatever.. Being on the bus with nothing much else to do results in an over active imagination =)
