Balkan Beats!

Last night I went to a club that was playing Balkan music. I was warned to be prepared for the shock of my life in terms of the music. In reality, it really wasn’t all that bad. Everyone is just doing their own thing. Rather liberating I would say.

Halfway through the night, they played a piece of music I recognized! It was Czardas by Monti – a violin piece that I absolutely adored the first time I heard it and then eventually learned how to play. I’m not sure I like the Balkan version of the piece, but it was cool nonetheless. It was definitely strange dancing to a piece of music that I played previously on the violin (in a classical setting) in a club.
