Fort Building

While reading through all my RSS feeds and clearing them out, I came across this article from Mental Floss:

Build Blog normally covers architecture and design, in their traditional, adult sense. But for the past few months they’ve occasionally dipped into tongue-in-cheek analyses of couch fort architecture, using photos of real couch forts built by kids, found online.

My brother and I LOVED to build forts from our furniture.  The things we made were massive and would stretch across an entire room.  For those of you that have been to my house, our forts would cover my room and into the hallway.  In fact, it was through one of these fort building adventures that my brother gave me a black eye (when he was 3 and he has never been able to live it down – such a traumatizing experience for me).  We would build them and leave them up for days.  Taking them down was always a disappointment, but usually as a result of my mom tripping over something or other…

Mine usually looked like this from the outside - chairs everywhere!

And looked like this on the inside – good use of the clothes rack!

Speaking of forts, on a somewhat related note, I’ve always wanted a canopy bed with lights… Something kind of like this:

Its raining outside.  Seems like it would be a good day to build a fort, pop some popcorn and hunker down to watch some movies.  Anyone care to join me?

Well when I was older, like from ages 8-10. My sister and I, along with the neighbours (3 boys around the same ages as us) found driftwood, climbed up trees and built platforms :)
