Crazy Week – Part I

Its been a pretty crazy week.  So much has happened.  I’ll start off from last weekend.

E.A.T. Vancouver

There two major conventions happening at the new convention centre downtown: Eat Vancouver and E.P.I.C.  I wanted to go to both, but only ended up going to Eat Vancouver.  It was pretty cool, wandering around the stalls, tasting and seeing new things.  I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t that much food.  You have to pay to enter, but if you want food, you have to pay extra for it.  About half the stalls weren’t even food related.  There was a travel section, but didn’t really relate at all to food, so I was a bit disappointed.

I did make some discoveries though.  This place in downtown Vancouver called Bonchaz has the most AMAZING buns ever.  I really like their Apple Cinnamon ones.  I also tried these salmon nuggets that were so good.  They were pretty much smoked salmon jerky, but even better.

One stall was handing out kettle corn.  Normally I don’t like kettle corn because its usually too sweet, but this one was actually really good.  It was only lightly sweet and lightly salted.  A good mix – I forgot the name of the brand and am too lazy to go look it up.  The only thing I bought was some dry curry that you can mix with yoghurt, mayo and sour cream to make the most amazing dipping sauce ever.  Delicious – can’t wait to try it out.  The convention centre is really nice too – wide and open.  As were were leaving, there were a bunch of high school kids coming in dressed to the nines for their prom.  Definitely brought back memories of mine.

Kayaking at Deep Cove

L. was having her birthday celebration early as she was going to be in Europe for her actual birthday.  The plan was to go kayaking at Deep Cove, but as the day got closer and closer, the weather didn’t look so promising.  We went anyways, and it was so much fun.

The rain wasn’t too bad for the most part.  It stopped raining for a large portion of the time we were on the water.  I was dry when I came out.  It was fun – hopefully I can go again during the summer when the weather is better.

Afterwards we went to Honey Doughnuts and Goodies in Deep Cove and WOW they have the MOST amazing doughnut ever.  Its lightly sweet and very dense – obviously home made.  SO good, I want another one now…

Despite me staying dry and warm while we were out on the water, I think I caught my cold from that afternoon on the water.  After the disaster that was Tuesday, I got ridiculously sick and I’m still trying to get rid of it.  Mostly its just my cough left, but wish it would just go away already!
