Changing the World in 10 Days?

I’m on the ferry right now and its so packed.  I only just realized that its spring break and that is probably the reason why the ferry is so busy.  There are a bunch of school groups here too.  One in particular I can identify with.  They were just returning from 10 days in Mexico building houses in a village.  Their conversations and joy in what they had accomplished the past days brought back memories of when I went to Cambodia, wide eyed, ready to take on the world and all its problems.

I guess there are a number of schools that offer similar programs to what RHS offered which is so cool.  The program gave me an opportunity to see a part of the world that I probably wouldn’t have explored on my own.  I learned a lot about the Khmer culture and history.  It is awesome that others have this sort of opportunity.  The Global Perspectives program was unique to my school in our district and it has encountered so many difficulties the past years that I didn’t even think that there would be other programs like it.

I overheard one conversation between two girls about how they want to go back next year and see how the project turned out.  I’ve been saying that since the moment I arrived back on Canadian soil, but it has yet to happen.  But one of these days I’m definitely going back.
