A Tail of Two Kitties

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times...

P. and I decided to take care of a friend's cat while he was gone for a couple months. Things were definitely a bit rough for awhile. Our cat didn't respond well at all the the newcomer. That first night she spent much of it hidden away as far as possible as the new cat explored our apartment. I've never seen her behave like that before. She was super aggressive, hissing and growling . Her fur was raised and her tail was all puffy:

By the end of the night, she had calmed down a bit. Her fur had come down and her tail was no longer puffy. She hid behind P.'s desk for most of the night as the new cat roamed around as he pleased. I wasn't expecting our cat to get so aggressive, but I guess thats normal. She was trying to protect her territory. I just have never seen her behave like that. Took me by surprise. She spent much of the next few days hissing and growling her throat out - literally. Every time she hissed, she had to swallow a couple times before she could hiss again. She must have been getting a sore throat from all that hissing! Both cats didn't sleep, eat, drink or go to the washroom much during the first few days. Eventually exhaustion kicked in around day 3 and they both slept and slept and slept (and in the same room too! breakthrough?) Day 4 took a definite upward turn. They were starting to "play" together - probably to relieve some aggression... They started to sniff one another, but they were still wary of each other:

By the fifth day though, they were definitely playing together quite well. Tippy was actively trying to get Bo Bo to play with her, but he didn't seem too interested. Things are definitely looking up.
