Flying into Montreal, at 7AM local time was insane. For most of the flight it was pitch dark and then bam - you look out the window and its a winter wonderland. I knew there was snow, I knew to expect snow, but nothing really prepared me to SEE snow. Everything within sight for miles was white.
After lack of food during most of the flight and trying to figure out how to get into Montreal, we were all starving. We all dropped off our bags and headed in search of food. Its a Saturday morning, around 9:30AM. You'd think there would be breakfast places open like in Vic, but in reality? Nope! Nothing was open. We finally stumbled upon a crepe place in Vieux Montreal. It was seriously the best meal ever! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
The food during the conference was AMAZING!! Seriously the BEST conference food EVER! Every meal there was a huge selection. At least 2 entrees and a vegetarian option, side dishes, rolls, salad - anything you needed, it was there. The best part? Dessert! Every lunch and dinner there was an amazing selection of sweets to tempt. I definitely came home a little wider at the hips! Considering the conference came over budget, I felt they could have spent a little less on the food. It really was a little too extravagant. By the end of the week, things got a little boring with the same things appearing over and over again. But am I really complaining? Not really...
Elections was pretty sweet. There was an actual "Secret Service" in operation. Funniest thing ever!
New Years was definitely the highlight of the conference. It was seriously the best night. Ringing in the new year was insane. In true AIESEC style, the new year was run in 3 times, for the various time zones found in Canada... I was too exhausted and chickened out at bout 2am...
The morning after was simulation day. My stress level has never shot up that fast. As designated President for Victorkia (Vic + York), not only did I have to figure out what was going on, I had to lead a couple people I didn't really know. By this time I had gotten to know the Vic delegation very well =) but the new comers definitely threw me off. It was difficult trying to get communication about what was going on without knowing their communication style... The whole day I couldn't help thinking, "wow I really wish I ran for LCP." But thats a different story... It was an eye opening experience, giving a crash course on what life must have been like for J in the past year...
The last evening banquet was totally awesome. Seeing everyone all dressed up, greeting new friends and old, is really what this conference is about. Making connections, forging friendships and just having fun. This conference was an amaazing experience and I'm so glad I decided to go. I don't know if I'll be attending another national AIESEC conference, but if this is my last one, its comforting to know that I had the best experience.
